Shigeru Uchida (1943–2016) was a prominent Japanese designer, recognized for his significant contributions to the interior and furniture design field throughout the 20th century. He participated in a variety of design projects across the globe, including architectural interior, furniture, industrial design, and urban planning. Under the influence of modernism and radical movements by Italian designers in the 1960s, Shigeru explored the relationship between people, society and nature by emphasizing an integrated approach to interior spaces.
Some of Shigeru’s works are now on display in the ongoing exhibition "Things, Spaces, Interactions" by M+. Sketches and drawings offer insight into his design process and can be viewed at the Research Centre.
